European Week of Sport 2021

Welcome to

The European Week of Sport 2021

The European Week of Sport (EWoS) is part of the European Commission’s overall policy aimed at raising the level of participation in sport and physical activity across Europe; generate new activities; and build on existing successful initiatives in the European, national, regional or local context.

The Week complements national measures to promote health-enhancing physical activity and provides funding for national or local grassroots’ projects via the Erasmus+ Sport Chapter.

It is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. In 2021 particular emphasis will be placed on promoting sport across generations or intergenerational sport to emphasize the overarching message of the #BeActive campaign.

Intergenerational sport is a vital instrument to foster not only active ageing but also social inclusion and community cohesion - two increasingly important segments for rebuilding Europe in the pandemic’s aftermath. The #BeActive campaign will encourage participation in sporting activities for both young and old.

Volunteering, coaching, doing sports or simply being a supporter could promote the role of families in society and this intergenerational transfer could help with Europe’s post-pandemic recovery.

The Slovenian presidency will organise the following events linked to the European Week of Sports 2021:

  • 22 September: Meeting of Directors General for Sport
  • 24 September: Presidency Conference "Lifelong Physical Activity"

This event is hybrid and you have the option to attend the event online or physically.
